Joaquin Castro For #HD35 Campaign Draws on Activist Family History

by JaimeRafael on November 8, 2011

I received this great email piece from the Joaquin Castro campaign today, and I couldn’t click donate fast enough. The Castro family, anchored by their civic activist mother Rosie Castro, are a rising force in Texas politics. I’m not a voter in the San Antonio and Austin congressional district, but I am an avid supporter of Joaquin Castro for congress.

Joaquin Castro for Congress
Dear Friends I’m Rosie Castro and I’m writing to ask for your support for my son, Joaquin Castro, in his race for the 35th Congressional District. I’ve devoted my adult life to trying to make my community and country a better place; to ensure that each person has the opportunity to live out their promise and fulfill their potential.

Rosie Castro and Sons

My values were shaped by my mother, Victoria, who came to the United States from Mexico as an orphaned girl around 1920. From her I learned about love, compassion, social justice and the importance of hard work and education My mother helped me raise my sons, Joaquin and Julian, and helped me to teach them these values. As any mother would be, I’m enormously proud that my sons are living out their grandmother’s legacy in their lives and in their public service, Julian as mayor of San Antonio and Joaquin as a five-term state representative.

Joaquin Castro for Congress

As a congressman for the newly created 35th Congressional District, I know Joaquin will work to unite our communities, and will continue to be a strong advocate on the issues that we care most deeply about, like job creation, education, healthcare, the environment, and the protection of civil rights. He will continue to be a public servant that we can all be proud of, while serving the people of Texas. Please support Joaquin today.  We all know that Washington is broken. Won’t you help send a fresh new voice to Congress, who will provide effective and principled leadership for the future of Texas? Sincerely, Rosie Castro

Please consider making a donation today of $250, $100
or $50 if you believe in Joaquin as much as I do.
