Looking Into the Gateway of the North Side

Have you ever been through the walkway of the Judge Alfred Hernandez underpass on North Main?

It’s always been one of those place you don’t go into during the day because of the smell, and especially not at night if you don’t want to see how that smell got there.

I’m sure gentrification will find its own “solution” to this rather than dealing with the people who mark their territory here… one way or another.

Black Cat Music @ Mary Janes (RIP)

I used to love making my way down to Washington Ave on a Friday or Saturday (or any night of the week) to see a band at Mary Janes or just drink at Mary Janes. It was a dive bar with half-way decent sound, and a killer booking agent (Thanks Hands-Up Houston!). Sadly, Mary Janes is no more. In its place stands a bar that counts its popularity points by the number of too-tight ed hardy or affliction t-shirts… oh and by the number of so-called Cougars on the prowl.

Rest In Peace Mary Janes. You are missed.
